Programs: WIC Summer Supplementation

This summer the Woman, Infants and Children program (WIC), the Alaska Cooperative Extension Service (ACES) and the Food Bank initiated a 13 week trial program to educate WIC parents using the fresh produce of the season.

ACES offered weekly cooking classes emphasizing whatever type of surplus produce was available at the Food Bank.

At the end of the class each parent packed his or her own grocery bag with fresh fruit, vegetables, milk and bread. The partnership was so successful that the initial 13 week program was extended to 21 weeks!
