Food Bank Day at the 2003 Tanana Valley State Fair

On Thursday, August 7th many generous Fairbanksans attended Food Bank Day at the Tanana Valley State Fair and donated food to help feed the hungry. Free admission was offered in exchange for four cans of food.

This year we collected 800 banana boxes of food totaling 55,300 pounds!  At the end of the day we had 5 TONS more than last year's record-breaking event.  This is THE single largest canned food drive in the history of the Food Bank.

A small army of hardworking volunteers also gave their time and energy and helped collect the donations and transport them to the Food Bank's facility. Every helping hand made a huge difference.

The 168th Air National Guard provided 75 volunteers, Design Alaska provided 20, and we had many, many more caring individuals who made our record-breaking canned food drive possible.

The Food Bank thanks everyone who donated food and volunteered to make this year's Food Bank Day such a huge success. Thank you Fairbanks!
