How You Can Help

Volunteers do great things at the Food Bank! More than 16,700 hours were donated last year. Over 50 volunteer hours are needed each day to help alleviate hunger in our area. Food Bank volunteers sort donations, pack food boxes, and help coordinate and distribute the food relief that we give to our fellow Alaskans to help them through their tough times.

Become a Volunteer

It's easy to become a Food Bank volunteer! Sign up using our new online volunteer application form or download our printable volunteer application (PDF), fill it out and bring it to the Food Bank.

People of all ages and all levels of ability are welcome. There is plenty of work for everyone and if you cannot lift and carry boxes or stand for long periods of time, there are other tasks that we can use your help with.

Good things happen when everyone contributes a little each year. Some ways that you can help end hunger in the Tanana Valley include:

  • Volunteer Your Time
Volunteer an hour once a week, once a month or once a year.

  • Canned Food Drives
Organize a work place, club or church canned food drive.

  • Recycling
Save and recycle clean boxes, plastic bags, egg cartons or paper sacks for food distribution.

  • Plant-A-Row
Plant a row of fruits or vegetables in your garden and donate the harvest to the Food Bank.

  • Sportsmen Against Hunger
Donate a portion of meat from your hunt to the Food Bank. To find out more about this program, please visit our Sportsmen Against Hunger page.

  • Skip-A-Meal
Organize a Skip-A-Meal fund raiser at your workplace, club or church.

  • Raise Awareness
Help us raise awareness about the number of hungry families and individuals in this community.
